GTM Highlights - February 2020

Posted by Rae Hurley on

Each month, we take a look through the latest issue of Game Trade Magazine (GTM) to get previews of shiny new games coming soon. Here are our highlights - but if you want to read it yourself, feel free to pop in and take a look at our store copy!

Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective The Baker Street Irregulars

Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: The Baker Street Irregulars

The next stand-alone game in the Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective game line features 10 brand new adventures to play! These are designed to focus more on thieving and solving mysteries, rather than the murderous crimes of previous adventures, offering a lighter theme without sacrificing the challenging gameplay. The adventures in this box are written by Sherlock Holmes expert Dave Neal, and don't require any of the previous boxes to play - so feel free to jump straight in, even if you haven't played any of the others! The Baker Street Irregulars features a new letter mechanic, which requires players to have uncovered certain leads before gaining additional information. It looks like this will reduce the likelihood of players getting random case details by chance instead of deduction, which should lead to a more immersive experience.

The Mind Extreme

The Mind Extreme

The Mind is a deceptively cunning little card game that has been incredibly popular, so a new version of this is definitely going to catch our eye! The Mind Extreme has the same basic rules, but features faster gameplay, and now has two card stacks to play onto instead of one. One of these stacks will be ascending as normal, but the other must be played in descending order. What's more, some rounds will be played blind, requiring players to play their cards face down! It sounds like a great way to add a bit more challenge to the game - if you think you're ready for it.

Dungeon Mayhem Monster Madness

Dungeon Mayhem Monster Madness

Dungeon Mayhem gets a new big box expansion with Monster Madness! Instead of playing epic Dungeons & Dragons heroes, this time players become the monsters! The decks from this box can be played against any other, and the monster-sized box is big enough to store your core game and all your Dungeon Mayhem expansions. What more do you need (other than more expansions, of course)?

Preorders coming soon!

King of Tokyo Dark Edition

King of Tokyo Dark Edition

King of Tokyo has been a favourite for us for years, so it's incredibly exciting to see a brand new collector's edition being released! This new edition of the game features darker noir-style artwork, refreshed components (those dice are beautiful!), and an interesting selection of monsters, all wrapped up in an embossed-cover box. To complete the experience, Dark Edition adds a new wickedness mechanic. Keep on eye on the malice gauge, which will trigger special game effects when it reaches a certain level. While this version claims to be compatible with all existing King of Tokyo expansions, it does look like there are new card backs in play, so you may want to sleeve everything before mixing in any expansion cards. We absolutely cannot wait to get our hands on this one, expected to release in April 2020!
