Proud Lion recommends: PANELxPANEL

Posted by Ben Fardon on

PanelxPanel is a new digital magazine celebrating the medium of comics. It’s edited by Strip Panel Naked host Hass Otsmane-Elhaou, and features a rotating set of writers ranging from critics to professionals, fans and comic stores.
Each issue has two halves across it's 70+ ad-free pages (for only $2!). The first, a focus on a particular comic and featuring a series of essays, interviews, process pieces and an exclusive Strip Panel Naked column all focused around that comic.
The second half features regular articles, with creator-on-creator interviews, craft essays, a short comic, and a series of comic recommendations from a range of comic-related voices. This is a true celebration of the medium with every issue, looking at all the elements that make comics an interesting art form and great place to tell visual stories. This is the magazine that cares about comics.
The first issue features an interview with both writer and artist of Beautiful Canvas (also released this week), Ryan K Lindsay and Sami Kivela. Alongside that is a process article from colourist Triona Farrell, an exclusive Strip Panel Naked article, and two feature essays on storytelling themes in the magazine. For the regular features, professional letterer Aditya Bidikar (Motor Crush, Black Cloud) talks about lettering, and his favourite ending in comics. Ollie Masters (Sons of Anarchy, Snow Blind) interviews Rob Williams (Suicide Squad, Unfollow) about his process, and writing comics. There's also a short comic, and a whole host of recommendations from writers, artists, fans, critics and shops.
"The most visionary, necessary and NOW comic publication since Matt Fraction's Savant, the best looking one since ever." - Kieron Gillen (The Wicked + The Divine, Star Wars: Darth Vader)
