Ben: Star Trek The Next Generation: Mirror Broken #1
This issue continues on from the Free Comic Book Day issue, and continues to be just as much fun. This issue will also appeal to both long-serving Star Trek fans as well as occasional readers. Definitely worth picking up!
Rae: Star Wars Imperial Assault Hera Syndulla And C1-10P Ally Pack
The Star Wars Imperial Assault game is embracing the fantastic characters from the animated TV show, Rebels! This ally pack for the game is a brilliant addition, showing off two of my favourite characters from the show. The models are beautiful, the cards are great, and the character abilities make me very excited to play this game again soon. Watch out for the rebels, and maybe don't stand too close to those terminals, either...
Maya: Rise Of Dungeon Master Gary Gygax & Creation Of D&D GN
As a big fan of Dungeons and Dragons, this was an enjoyable read for me - I've always loved hearing about the creation of D&D and Gary Gygax's views on how the game should be. This graphic novel covers everything from the release of Chain mail, the collaboration between Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, the rise and fall of TSR, and the controversy that rose from the death of James Dallas Egbert. It finishes with a lovely summary of how D&D has made a resurgence with 5th Edition and the final few years of Gygax himself. I loved this book as a biography to a person who has inadvertently influenced 10 years of my life through a simple hobby.
Chris: Motor Girl TP
Motor Girl is a stunning lighthearted sci-fi centred on an ex-US marine suffering from PTSD. Samantha has finished three tours of duty, and now runs a scrap yard in the baking heat of the Nevada, assisted by Mike, a gorilla.
But all is not as it seems, as a shadowy wing of the government is keen to buy up the land to test a strange device, and Sam has become known as the best repairer of UFOs in the area. But, then again, her headaches have been getting worse lately - so maybe this is all just a bad dream.
This is an amazing exploration of how the human psyche can react to extreme stress wrapped up within a enjoyable, funny and breezy sci-fi story full of government agents, little green men and heat stroke. An amazing read.
