Staff Pick of the Week

Posted by Rae Hurley on

Each week, the staff here at Proud Lion will be taking a look at our new releases and talking about their personal favourites. Take a look at our selections for this week!

Venom #150Ben: Venom #150

This is the perfect jumping-on point for anyone interested in Venom, containing three complete stories which don't require any knowledge of the previous story arc to understand. For those who have been following Venom, the second story shows you what happened to Flash Thompson. The third story is also a deliciously retro 90's-style story, as if in the heyday of Eddie Brock.

Dragon Shield Four Compartment BoxesRae: Ultra-Pro Play Map Tubes and Dragon Shield Deck Boxes

While not strictly a new product, these items are new to Proud Lion this week! The play map tubes are perfect for standard sized play mats, keeping them safe in transit. The Dragon Shield boxes feature four compartments (though the dividers are removable, so you can reduce that to less, but larger, spaces if you like) which have enough room for plenty of cards, dice, and tokens, and again are perfect for taking your decks out and about.

Alters TPMaya: Alters Vol 1 TP

Alters is a fun story about a world where some people develop super powers and become known as Alters. The story follows the character Chalice, who has not only recently discovered she's an Alter, but is also dealing with the stress of transitioning without her parents' knowledge. I enjoyed this story once I was able to read it in it's entirety, as the main character is not only having to balance two very different secret lives, but is well written and overall an exceptionally well done trans character. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is currently looking for something different than the DC and Marvel super hero stories.

Samaritan Veritas #1Chris: Samaritan Veritas #1

Samantha Copeland (codename Samaritan) is a woman with a vendetta. She has decided to steal the research from the world's largest private military contractor and share it with the world, but in the process she has made some powerful enemies, including the US Government. Can she survive long enough to succeed, or will the FBI track her down first?

People who have read Eden's Fall and Tithe will definitely want to read the next part of the unfolding story, but I can heartily recommend this for people who are new to the Edenverse as a good jumping on point that stands up perfectly fine by itself.
